Executive Summary

Principles of partner selection for fisting hookups. Overview of tools and techniques for screening. Brief overview of selection criteria that increases the likelihood of a good connection and decreases the risk of harm or injury. Common sense protocols for connecting with others.

Rationale

Prior to engaging in a fisting session, it is important to screen and evaluate your potential playmate. This will enhance the quality of the session by ensuring compatibility, building a foundation of trust, and promoting safety through risk reduction.

Compatibility

Fisting Ying Yang
Figure 1.1: Partner Harmony

Partners that match at multiple levels experience better fisting.

Vetting your partners for compatibility is an important component of a rewarding play.

The quality of a fisting session is largely influenced by the strength of the connection between partners, which is directly linked to their compatibility. Physical and emotional attraction, comparable histories, shared backgrounds or cultures, and similar personal values are key factors that contribute to this compatibility. For example, it's often easier to connect with someone who shares a similar age, experience, and life philosophy, rather than someone with whom you have nothing in common. A sober fister, for instance, may find it challenging to connect with a chem player.

While similarities are important, in some cases, complete opposites are beneficial in create connection. These items are traits complementary in nature and can include complementary roles such as top/bottom, complementary personalities such as dominant/submissive, and complementary identities such as master/apprentice or daddy/boy.

Foundation of Trust

Trust is an important ingredient of a fisting session. A basic level of trust may open a hole, but an advanced level will open the mind and produce nirvana. The fastest method of obtaining deeper connection is by enhanced screening and evaluation processes.

Simple, on-the-spot screenings can be helpful in certain situations, but they cannot compare to the benefits of a thorough vetting process. For example, in group play sessions, a bottom may be approached by an unknown top. Without any prior screening or observation of the top's technique and mannerisms, a bottom will be hesitant to play. If he does consent and hops in the sling, his hole will not open up completely until his mind has either consciously or subconsciously evaluated the top. This in-sling evaluation can take up to a half hour or longer. Even so, the foundation is weaker and may crumble at any time.

Safety and Risk Reduction

Safety

Your evolution has endowed you with a natural ability to assess people and situations around you. This skill has been critical to human survival throughout history, as those who were not vigilant did not survive to pass on their genes. Today, this innate ability is still used in daily life to minimize risks to yourself, your family, and your community. It is also important in selecting play partners, especially with the increased risks of activities like fisting.

By observing seemingly insignificant behaviors and mannerisms of others, you can form a gut feeling about their trustworthiness. However, it is crucial to validate these assumptions through advanced communication skills. This involves probing into details to confirm or reject your initial impressions.

Certs: Helpful or Not?

Trusting assumptions made from profiles or postings can be dangerous. Investigate and validate any assumption prior to hooking up.

Risk Reduction

The ultimate goal of safety screening is to identify and eliminate malevolent individuals, while selecting those who exhibit a high level of beneficence. By doing so, you can increase your safety and well-being during the fisting experience.

VOCABULARY

Malevolence

  1. Noun The quality or state of doing or wishing evil to others; the quality or state of being malevolent.

Beneficence

  1. Noun The quality or state of doing or producing good : the quality or state of being beneficent.

Key points to consider include:

  • Malevolence | It can be difficult to accurately distinguish between individuals with malicious intent from awkward individuals who just want to connect. Look for signs of apathy, narcissism, grandiosity, vagueness, or uncouth and atypical interactions.
  • Beneficence | It is not sufficient to eliminate partners based on malevolence. A partner needs to also demonstrate concern for your well-being. Lacking beneficence also puts you at risk. One doesn't need to be a psychopath to freak out and abandon you in time of need (see the case study below).

Case Study: Lack of Beneficence

To say Emerson was a little crazy was an understatement. Rational people rarely repeated a fisting session with him due to his almost universal breaches in every category of trust. Unfortunately, James was unaware of his reputation.

Their fisting date started out normal enough (less a few eccentricities ritualistically performed by Emerson) but eventually turned sour. Rumors would eventually circulate that James' demise was due to Viagra, poppers and cocaine, but the truth remained hidden from the general public.

With the session well underway, Emerson accidentally perforated the intestine. Complications led to a drop in blood pressure and ensuing cardiac arrhythmia and arrest. A beneficent person would call 911, but not Emerson. He packed his gear, vacated the premise, went to Starbucks, ordered a latte, and then called 911 from a distance to report James' condition. He knew being caught at a fisting death would be too much for his wife to handle.

In the delay, James passed away. He had told his friends previously (in jest) that he wanted to die while fisting—sadly his wish came true!

Screening Tools and Strategies

Various tools assist with the vetting process that help identify the correct partner for play.

Networking / Referrals

Prior to modern technology, screening was conducted by word-of-mouth references, on-the-spot evaluations, and by spending time together.

If you were not part of the local network or had limited connections, you could declare your propensity for fisting by flagging red[ 1 ].

QUICK REFERENCE

Rubrics

In academia, rubrics serve as an assessment tool for evaluating and scoring students' work. They ensure fairness by defining expectations and assigning corresponding values to each requirement. While hardly anyone has a formal rubric for screening, mentally, we use them to assess, vet, and select partners.

For example, as we begin communicating with a potential partner, we might notice narcissistic characteristics. Since we have malevolence weighted heavily, we automatically disqualify that individual from play and move on.

Apart from malevolence and beneficence, there are several factors that can be part of a screening rubric.

  • Position | This heavily weighted factor is often a primary concern in partner selection and vetting. For exclusive tops and bottoms, this is the highest weighted factor. Versatile men prioritize and weigh this factor a lower value than others; however, they still consider it important as evidenced by their preference for other versatile guys and distrust of those who identify as bottom versatile.
  • Hospitality/Location | The ability to host or the necessity of travel can be deal breakers, likewise, a partner that is geographically distant receives lower priority and ranking.
  • Health Behaviors | Considerations regarding sobriety, smoking, vaccinations, and promiscuity are all components of this factor. In many cases, these can be individual rubric values.
  • Attraction | As both social and visual creatures, connection is diminished or absent if there isn't an attraction (physical or psychological).
  • Serostatus | This category is quite possibly the most idiotic factor in selection rubrics, as it cannot be reliably ascertained. Protective measures such as TaP and PrEP should have eliminated this factor for most individuals.
  • Skill/Experience | This factor is typically weighted fairly low except for with very novice fisters or those recovering from a fisting injury.
  • Values/Ideologies | While values matter, extremes tend to indicate an absence of empathy, which is an important characteristic in connecting with others. Considerations here may include religious valor, political inclinations, and marital fidelity.
  • Schedule/Availability | Timing is relevant because asynchronous schedules prevent play.

Since most fisters complete rubric calculations in their heads, categories often get flagged as positive or negative. When there are more negatives than positives, there is no match. When positives outnumber negatives significantly, the likelihood of a very connected session is high.

Technology

Various technology-related tools help you screen partners more effectively. Other technology can protect you when you doubt the veracity of your vetting process.

Online Profiles

Social media is a popular tool for fisters to connect with each other. Online identities across various platforms can provide valuable information about a person's personality and practices. Not all social platforms are equal in this regard. Some give very curated views while others paint an entire picture that can be used for screening purposes.

For example, a Facebook profile gives more insight and accuracy than a Grindr profile.

Social media platforms can be grouped into a hierarchy of authenticity:

  • Tier I | Platforms that are associated with actual names, faces, and daily activities, with specific subgroups for specialized group interaction. Example: Facebook.
  • Tier II | Platforms that are not associated with actual names but have interactive features that cause users to have a vested interest in maintaining an accurate representation of themselves. Examples: Asspig, FFister.
  • Tier III-A | Platforms that have some community interaction where users have a vested interest in promoting and maintaining public interaction. Although websites are often available for these platforms, primary use occurs on smart phones. Examples: Twitter, Instagram.
  • Tier III-B | Platforms that have some community interaction, but that interaction is on a community wall that doesn't promote heavy interaction. Typically accessed on mobile phones. Examples: Telegram, WhatsApp, Recon.
  • Tier IV | Apps with no community interaction that are tied to SIM cards or mobile phone numbers. Examples: Grindr, Scruff.
  • Tier V | Websites with no community interaction that utilize 'throw-away' profiles that are connected to fictitious email accounts. Examples: BBRT and Adam4Adam.

Online profiles can be carefully curated to paint a specific picture about an individual. Additional verification is needed to confirm the actual truthfulness of the profile.

It's important to exercise caution and avoid making assumptions based solely on a profile, as even Tier I platforms are carefully curated presentations of the poster. If you are using online profiles to screen playmates, use them as a baseline and follow up with one-on-one communication to validate authenticity.

Certifications

Tools such as Asspig certifications and FFister endorsements can help you gain insight into the character and skills of others. If using those apps, be leery of men with exclusively old or a very limited number of reviews. Memberships in social media fisting groups can help you learn more about playmates and their engagement in the community.

Making assumptions from profiles or postings can be dangerous. Jeffrey Dahmer, Gary Ray Bowles, and John Wayne Gacey all seemed likeable at the start. Use certifications only as a first line of vetting to trigger conversation prior to hooking up.

Direct Messaging

Apart from telephone conversations, direct messaging is an excellent screening tool. Message content and frequency can reveal a lot about an individual. Stored messages allow you to assess and validate honesty.

Common tools include SMS, email, encrypted messaging (Telegram, WhatsApp), and inter-app messaging (Asspig, Blusky, X, etc.).

Typically, a connection may start on an app or networking site, then advance to more personal messaging, usually SMS with cell phone number.

Target Reduction and Exit Strategies

Even after implementing advanced screening techniques, all risk is not eliminated. Individuals may misrepresent themselves or lie with malicious or non-malicious intent.

Having a backup plan for terminating a session can decrease awkwardness or save your life.

Location Monitoring (Target Reduction)

You become less of a target when you make it known that others are aware of your location and activities.

Several online apps or services such as bsafe or location sharing can help monitor your safety and provide your location to others if needed. Alternatively, a low-cost solution to these apps is to inform your guest or host that at least one friend is keeping tabs on you. This can be directly or indirectly.

For example, you can arrange to have a friend call within the first few minutes of the session. A very brief conversation with that friend will indirectly let your playmate know that people know where you are. Or you can be direct and tell your playmate that you have to check in with a friend prior to the session to let them know that you are 'getting some FFun!'

If those options make you uncomfortable or seem awkward, send at least one text from your host location to provide an electronic trail in the event something does go wrong.

If you are on the down low and can't call a friend to let them know you are fisting, set an alarm with a ring tone. Answer it with a quip: 'I'll call you back later!'

Exit Strategy

After you have completed a thorough vetting, you set up a time to meet. With first contact, several things could raise more red flags, and you need to plan your exit strategy in advance:

  • If your initial meeting happens at a public venue, you can simply state that you don't feel a connection. Part ways politely.
  • If your initial meeting happens at a private location (your house or his house), evaluate the situation before implementing your exit. For example, if you are at the door and his pictures or mannerisms are not representative of what he sent you during the vetting process, terminate before entering. Be the bigger person and be kind in your departure statement but let them know that you don't feel comfortable playing with somebody who has been misleading.
  • If you feel something is off at any point in the session, evaluate your options and tailor your exit accordingly. Ideally, you do not want to exit his place screaming 'bloody murder' in the middle of winter; however, it is an option.

Media 3.1: Dahmer | Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story

In the Netflix series Dahmer, Tracy Edwards, Jeffrey Dahmer's last victim, was able to escape after a significant struggle. Vetting is never foolproof, so always consider and implement an early exit strategy.

It is often best to be forthright, but in some situations, a more subtle exit strategy may be necessary to keep you safe. One such strategy is to use your smart phone alarm. Set the alarms to use a ring tone. Act out your call as if there is an emergency or other urgent reason to terminate the session, then politely excuse yourself.

Protocols

Protocols include standard practices and etiquette followed by the majority of the fisting community. Typically, these are things that new fisters pick up over time.

Standard Practices refers to common sense behaviors related to fisting activities. There are two standard practices related to vetting.
